Mailbox Makeover

First things first!  The couple we bought the house from had the mailbox installed in the round-a-bout driveway.  I guess they were "grandfathered" in so that the mail lady would come into the driveway to deliver their mail.  However, in order to keep the driveway clear for said mail lady all cars would have to park in the garage or on the street and our garage is pretty busy with storage/projects these days!  Not to mention all the different work/family vehicles that will be popping by.  The idea of constantly having people move their cars didn't sound so great to us so we decided to move the mailbox to the standard street side position.

Here's a shot of the old box:

We picked up our new mailbox at Lowe's.  We liked it because it had a little more character than the standard black but still didn't break the bank.  After a little work with the post hole digger we sunk the new box using the USPS guidelines found here:

Next we screwed in some new house numbers in an oil rubbed bronze finish.  One day we also want to paint the post so that the numbers stand out more but we want it to match our eventual shutter color which is yet to be determined.  Also, the mailbox area and front yard in general is in desperate need of some landscaping TLC but we have to prioritze and get in this house first!  So here's a shot of the mailbox now.  It's not perfect yet but it will do the job.
