In the beginning I thought I would put wood floors throughout the main house, tile in the laundry and bathrooms and carpet in the bedrooms. I have enjoyed carpet in the bedrooms while we've been staying at my parents because Warren can crawl like crazy wherever he wants.
However after a few weeks of searching I eliminated the carpet plan. Warren would benefit from them now but he will be walking before too long and I could not find a carpet that I really loved and could live with long term. Wood floors are also going to be easier to keep clean in a house with a baby and two dogs. Besides, I love hunting for a pretty rug and didn't want to deprive myself!
When looking at hardwoods we were overloaded with information. It turns out that on a cement slab near the water it is really recommended to go with an engineered hardwood instead of a solid hardwood. The engineered is less likely to pull away from the cement and buckle. We decided that we were ok with that and ended up getting a great deal on these wood floors which we ordered from Floor City off of Airport Blvd.
Columbia Oak Floor in Java Stain
We got a great deal on these floors and the sample was very solid but I am a little anxious to check out the actual product to make sure it is decent quality!
There is a great place in Atlanta called Floor Decor & More. You can walk through their warehouse and find great deals on tile. I found a tile I wanted to use in the laundry room & master bath there but wasn't ready to pick it up that day. Turns out that although their price is great their shipping cost is out of control! So we ended up ordering the same tile we found there from Pro-Source in Pensacola. Although Pro-Source had a slightly higher price per square foot we ended up saving money by not having a shipping cost.
This is the tile for the master and guest bathrooms:
It is grey with thin striations and is very spa-like.
Wow! Really need to work on my photog skills, sorry!
Here is my fav!!! Tile for the laundry area:
Yeah, it kind of sparkles! It has a linen print to it with a metallic overlay. Love!
Finally, this is the tile for the 1/2 bath which we just picked up at Home Depot:
This bath is turning out bold with a capital B. So I hope this tile keeps it fun but brings in a little neutral.
So there you have it! Floors! I can't wait to see how they look, keeping my fingers crossed until Wednesday!
Oh, and just for fun this little guy came by to check on our progress the other day.
